| | | | Welcome to the University of Minnesota Medical School's Global Health Impact Group (GHIG) webpage! With the support of the International Medical Education and Research (IMER) program, we are a student-run organization that aims to provide opportunities for students to channel their interests and skills towards promoting increased understanding and awareness of global health care needs.
What we do:
Journal Clubs: The GHIG journal club meets on a monthly basis to discuss articles related to global health/international medicine with the aim of providing opportunities for students to learn and engage in new ideas related to global health. Each journal club session will focus on a specific topic of relevance in the current global health arena and will be facilitated by a facutly member. Bring your own lunch but a lively discussion is provided!
Please stay tuned for journal club announcements!
Global Health Blog: The Global Health blog will track the global healthcare adventures of University of Minnesota medical students as they travel around the world. The blog will feature personal essays, opinion pieces on various issues relevant to global health, photos, and serve as a clearinghouse for information and debate.
Please click on the "GHIG Blog" link above for more information.
GHIG Forum: The purpose of the GHIG forum is to provide a platform to encourage discussion and debate about all interesting, relevant global health-related issues. The forum is open to all students and we encourage as much participation as possible. Forums will regularly be visited by faculty experts who will also weigh in with their opinions. Please visit the Forum link to see the various topics we currently have going!
Resources: We are dedicated to improving resources available to students interested in global health, through better on-line information sources and greater access to funding opportunities for international experiences. Every year the medical school sends many students abroad as well as taking in a number of international exchange students from around the world. These students serve as a rich source of information for other students who are seeking international experiences. One of GHIG's main goals is to facilitate communication between these two groups with the hopes of promoting internships, research, clinical experiences, rotations and other international experiences for medical students.
Please check out our list of former and current students who have provided their contact information and are enthusiastic to help you in your pursuit of an international health experience.
Collaboration with the Center for Victims of Torture: Please stay tuned for more information.
Global Health Summit: In order to foster collaboration between the U of M medical school and our colleagues in other schools on campus and throughout the nation and around the world, we are planning to host a Global Health summit next Spring 2012. Stay tuned!
